'My Mom'

Well, this week was an awesome one here in oxkutzcab. We taught lots of people and have lots of new investigators. We found lots of new people that we will be teaching next week.

Let's start out with our interview with Presidente. Basically, the best interview I've ever had in my whole life. He's seriously so awesome, and just talks with you. We started with a prayer and I said it, and then he asked if I was doing better after being transferred to oxk and how I liked it. I told him that the first few weeks were honestly a little rough and my companion was struggling with following some of the rules, and everyday we were talking about following the rules. And then I told him I got to a breaking point where I just told my companion that we were going to follow the rules 100% of the time,  with 100% exactness, or I'm going to be making some calls, and that I wasn't afraid to.  And Presidente said, "Wow...(and his eyes and his eyebrows were like raised like he was surprised--idk).  And he said,  "Elder Hall--I have a question for you. Why are you so obedient? And who taught you to be so obedient?"   And I was shocked he asked this, and wasn't really sure what to say.  It actually made me think, and I came up with the answer in my head.  I obviously got emotional (like always) and he said, "I knew I needed to bring one extra tissue today!"  And I said 'Thanks'.   So I said, "My Mom".   Literally that's all I said, and he said,  'I love how obedient you are. And you don't complain about the rules or having to be obedient--you just do it'.  And I just said,  'Yeah'.   And then he asked me if I knew Oxk very well, like the members and the area and I said 'Yeah, I'm pretty familiar with everything and all the members'.   And he said,  'Are you ready to train?' And I said, 'Ummm honestly, if you want me to train and Heavenly Father tells you I need to train, I will be more than willing to train'.  And he said, 'Well Elder Hall, thanks for meeting with me today.  I will be praying to know where to send you and who your next companion will be'. And I said, 'K,  sounds good.'  And I was out

I want to train and I think it would be an awesome opportunity for me to grow as a missionary. but at the same time me and Elder Sibley talked about this and he said just don't become a stick missionary and a robot and think you're all cool 'cause you're a trainer.

And its true--I want to train somebody, but at the same time I don't wanna become a 'tool missionary'.  So that's where I'm at right now on training someone.

Well something kinda cool.  If you look up Thomas S Monson estadio azteca in Youtube, Presisdente Ruiz translated for Thomas S Monson when he came to Mexico.  It was the first time a prophet had gone to Mexico and spoke.  He has met basically all the current apostles living right now and a bunch that have passed away and has photos with all of them, so that's pretty cool. He also helped translate the Bible the church publishes to Spanish. So that's cool.

Well let's start out with Yaretzi.  She's the 8 year old girl that we are teaching the lesson right now but can't get a date cause her mom doesn't want her baptized. So I just told my comp that this week that we were just going to make friends with the family. And so we taught her a the Plan of Salvation this week  she told us that she wanted a himnario, so when we were in Merida we brought it to her and she was seriously so happy.  She has such a awesome heart and such an awesome spirit. We quizzed her on the Plan of Salvacion and she literally got all the questions right. It was pretty insane. We're gonna invite her mom for the next lesson.  I'm gonna make her sit down and have us teach her.  She knows it's true just--has some pride built up against the Church. Yaretzy and her brother went to church yesterday, which is awesome.

Well also we had an appt with Toto and Isabella. They're the little kids that have the monkey and the crocodile. So we get in there and we teach them and we find out that Toto is not baptized, so we started the lessons with him yesterday and he'll be baptized most likely not this Saturday but the next Saturday--which is awesome.  We said that we were going to pick them up on Sunday (which was yesterday) at 830 so we could walk to church with them, and so we got there and nobody was awake except for the drunk grandpa.  So he let us in and we just told him to wake them up and he did.  They got up and I got everyone a moto taxi and we were a little late and we walked into the sacrament meeting a little late and the face on Presidente's face was awesome--and he was a little shocked. It was funny. I got to meet Jorge the monkey--he's a spider monkey they say--but he's pretty stinking loud when he yells, and doesn't really like other people. Then they showed us their crocodile and idk, the name but it lives in the cement thing with water and it has no teeth. So that was cool--they have like 150 ducks that just live on the property as well;  they have 3 puppies that were like a month old. They also have pigs and sheep and birds, lots of birds actually with some babies.

Well we like to talk with all the borrachos we can on the streets. Yesterday there weren't any in our street and usually there's a bunch, and I said to my comp "estamos en oxk or no?" And I said "no estamos en nuestro area" no borrachos, and literally five seconds later we hear "hermjanos!!   Domingo, el dia de roposo.  Domingo. domingo. dia de jesus.  And I turned to my comp and I said "estamos en oxk" hahahahahaha   It was so funny.  So we talked to him and my comp asked him where his leg was and this guy starts looking for his leg cause he can't find it. I got a video of it--it was hilarious

All in all this week was a killer week and we worked insanely hard. I'm super happy with the work we did this week. The interview and talks with Presidente just give me more and more hope to keep working harder and harder each week. And receiving his emails every week.

I'm doing awesome here you guys. The work is awesome, and the coconuts are delicious. haha

I have one everyday. Rip it off the tree and then throw it on the ground to open it (cause I don't have a knife)

Well I got to get working. Oh wait one more story--

So I went to bed one night and I hear like this 'spark sound'. I look and our bedroom door is open and I see the fuse to the refrigerator like on fire.  And I was like 'Elder, Elder'.  And he didn't wake up, and I yelled and I told him the refrIg was on fire and so we got up and ripped the cord out of the outlet and it was smoking so we don't have a refrigerator this week. And we didn't have one this past week. It sucks, but I think the mission is gonna send us a new one. We have 5 in our appt right now, so why not add another one to the stack?  Yep--that's my story

K-peace

Elder Hall
